Congratulations 2011 Interns
Congratulations to our graduating interns from the Class of 2011. As they move on to greener pastures, so to speak, we look forward to watching them grow into polished sustainability professionals.
Frannie Speer graduated Summa Cum Laude with a major in Economics and a minor in Entrepreneurship. After graduation, she moved to Charlotte to work for Wells Fargo in investment banking. Frannie served as the Choose to Reuse campaign intern. Her reflection on her internship: I really enjoyed sharing the knowledge I learned as an intern with my friends and family. Watching people I care about begin to recycle, use a reusable bottle, and take other actions to reduce their waste was extremely rewarding.
Caitlin Brooks graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Anthropology and a minor in English. Caitlin will stay on as the first-ever Wake Forest Fellow for the Office of Sustainability. Caitlin served as the Communications and Outreach intern. Her reflection on her internship: I really enjoyed collaborating with landscaping services to draft the Campus Tree Care Plan and then to host the first campus Arbor Day celebration. Seeing the project through from conception to celebration was so rewarding.
Josh DeWitt graduated Magna Cum Laude with a major in Business and Enterprise Management and a concentration in Corporate Social Responsibility from the Schools of Business. After graduation, he moved to Texas to work as a Marketing Analyst with PepsiCo/FritoLay. Josh served as a Green Team program development intern. His reflection on his internship: Sustainability is more than just a few choices that you make for your life; sustainability is a lens that alters the way you perceive the world.
Shayna Egan graduated with a major in Health and Exercise Science and minors in Spanish and Latin American Studies. She will pursue a graduate degree in her field next year. Shayna served as an EcoReps intern. Her inspirational quote: We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give. – Winston Churchill
Jenny King graduated with a major in History and a minor in Environmental Studies. She is off to work as a community educator for a ranch in Wyoming for the summer. After that, the world is her oyster. Jenny served as the first-ever Game Day Recycling intern and she pioneered the first Green Graduation Pledge program at Wake Forest. Her inspirational quote: In every walk with nature, one receives far more than he seeks. -John Muir
Katherine Sinacore graduated with a major in Biology and a minor in Environmental Science. She will continue her studies at the University of New Hampshire where she will pursue a graduate degree in the School of Forestry. Katherine served as a Green Team program development intern. Her reflection on her internship: One of the most memorable moments from my internship was after giving a presentation to Green Team captains about all the actions they can take to make their offices/departments more sustainable. Watching the captains have their ah-ha moment and realize their potential was inspiring.
Jackie Staiger graduated with a major in Business and Enterprise Management and a minor in Global Trade & Commerce from the Schools of Business. After graduation, she moved to Texas to work as a Marketing Analyst with PepsiCo/FritoLay. Jackie served as the Marketing intern, concentrating her time on developing and implementing the Think Green Thursdays outreach program. Her reflection on her internship: Our sustainability intern group was an extremely diverse group of people from every major possible. I truly enjoyed getting to know everyone and learning about sustainability through so many different lenses.
