Are you a student interested in making a difference and gaining professional development experience? The following paid opportunities with the Office of Sustainability are available to all Wake Forest University undergraduate students. All positions will begin in January 2020 and continue through at least the Spring 2020 semester. Members of underrepresented communities are encouraged to apply.

  • the position for which you are applying;
  • relevant work and/or volunteer experience;

  • a brief description of why you want to pursue the position; 
  • skills you would bring to the internship or assistantship; and 
  • what you hope to gain from the experience. 

INTERNSHIPS
Interns are part of the OoS Intern Team and are required to attend weekly team meetings.

Greeks Go Green
This position requires a minimum of a one-year commitment and is only open to current members of a Greek organization (social, service, professional, or academic). The Greeks Go Green Intern will facilitate the Greeks Go Green program and empower Greek students to incorporate sustainability into their daily lives and chapter values through discussion and action. The intern will hold weekly meetings with chapter representatives, recruit and train new representatives when needed, and support group members as they work to implement sustainability-focused initiatives within their chapters. Requirements include regular and effective communication with representatives, Greek chapter presidents, and the Office of Student Engagement; exceptional problem-solving abilities; and accountability to self and others. Current Greeks Go Green representatives are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate for this position will work alongside current Greeks Go Green Coordinator Mariam Alsorogi for the spring semester before taking over responsibility for the program in Fall 2020.

Propose a Unique Internship
Have a great idea for a sustainability-focused internship that’s not listed? Submit a unique internship proposal. We are always looking for new, innovative ways for students to generate sustainability-focused solutions on campus. Your proposal should include an articulation of the need for the proposed project and the landscape of issues surrounding the project. 

ASSISTANTSHIPS
Assistants contribute to ongoing projects with the Office of Sustainability and work to fulfill already-identified needs.

Graphic Design
The Graphic Design Assistant will create designs for promotional event materials, outreach boards, and social media campaigns. The person in this position works closely with the Communications and Event Coordinator and the content development assistant team. An aesthetic eye and ability to work under deadline are critical to this role. Previous experience with Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva is preferred. Please submit 1-2 of your own graphic designs with your application.

Social Media 
Are you creative and social media savvy? Are you eager to tell the story of Wake Forest sustainability through Instagram, Twitter and Facebook? The Social Media Assistant will lead the development and execution of campaigns that drive audiences to our digital content. In this role you will:

  • Work with the Communications and Event Coordinator to conceptualize and create integrated social media campaigns 
  • Create and manage a schedule for consistent content generation that aligns with the Office of Sustainability’s events, priorities, and programs throughout the semester
  • Develop plans to increase audience engagement on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter
  • Independently research best practices and propose creative ideas 
  • Gather insights from analytics to inform strategic social media decisions

A passion for social media, innate curiosity, and ability to write in a clear and concise manner are paramount in this position. Previous experience in a social media role (e.g. an internship, a leadership position within a student organization, etc.) is preferred. 

Plant-Forward Dining
The Plant-Forward Dining Assistant will be responsible for conducting outreach on the environmental and health benefits of prioritizing plant-based foods. The successful candidate will develop, create, and implement new and existing outreach activities and help coordinate Plant-Forward Dining Committee meetings and initiatives. Requirements include a creative mind, excellent time management skills, and the demonstrated skills to empower other students. This position will work closely with both the Office of Sustainability and Deacon Dining.
